If you’re the kind of vegetarian who loves the taste of meat but disapproves of the cruelty involved, we have some great news for you! Researchers at Missouri’s Modern Meadow have developed a way to 3D print cruelty-free, delicious meat without going near an animal.

modern-meadow-3d-meat-printingThe technology was revealed to potential investors, but has since returned to the shadows after Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal bought the technology for an undisclosed sum. The researchers released a statement to get investors’ mouths watering:

“The technology has several advantages in comparison to earlier attempts to engineer meat in vitro. The bio-ink particles can be reproducibly prepared with mixtures of cells of different type. Printing ensures consistent shape, while post-printing structure formation and maturation in the bioreactor facilitates conditioning.”

Mmmm! Delicious bio-ink particles. But despite the laboratory-speak, the idea of 3D printing a delicious fillet steak is irresistible. This kind of incredible sci-fi technology just shows how far 3D printing has come in such a short space of time.
